William C Achtermann

William C. Achtermann, age 86, of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on Monday morning, January 24, 2011. Born December 2, 1924 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, he was adopted by Robert C. and Lilah B. (Abbott) Achtermann at the age of 3. Bill was a graduate of Scott High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Germany and the Philippine Islands. After his tours of duties, Bill enlisted in the Air National Guard where he was recognized for faithful service from May, 1963 through December, 1984. He retired as Master Sergeant in the 180th Civil Engineering Flight. William was employed by Ohio Bell and retired in 1982 after 36 years of loyal service. He was an avid bowler being a member of the Toledo Men's Bowling Association. Bill was a member of the Grand Lodge Order of Elks in Maumee and wqas chosen as Elk of the year in 1995. He also was an avid country western fan. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Jane ( Blair ) with whom he had four daughters, Cheryle E.( Michael ) Gallagher, Barbara J. ( David) Day, Hiedi L. Renfroe, Diana M. ( Jerry) Uland, who all survive. He later married Flodora ( Doree ) M. Gisel, who preceded him in death in 2008. He is also survived by loving Nieces Susan Weir-Schaadt ( Henry ) and Barbara Ward-Bovee ( Tom), 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd. at Byrne Road on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 6-8 pm. A service will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 am. on Thursday Morning. The family suggests memorial to Oakleaf Village Toledo.
