Thomas Eugene Weaver

Thomas "Tom" "G-Pa" Eugene Weaver Thomas "Tom" Eugene Weaver, 79, of Toledo Ohio, passed away Sunday July 8, 2018 at St. Anne's Hospital. Most recently, he resided at Franciscan Care Center after leaving Swan Cove Apartments early this year. Tom attended Van Buren High School where he played football and made some long lasting friendships. Tom was also a member of the U.S. Navy before receiving an honorable discharge in 1960. He was born on February 25, 1939. Although Tom initially refused to call it quits, a stroke and hip replacement forced Tom to retire from being a semi-truck driver after many miles over the road. Tom was very talented with woodworking and working with die cast model cars before becoming ill. Some of his other interests included anything auto related - racing, funny cars, slot cars, and auto shows; spending time with others, his fish tanks, playing card games, and using the computer. Physical impairments kept Tom from partaking in some of the activities he once excelled at and really liked, but he was way too ornery of a man to let the disabilities stop him. Right up to his death, Tom could often be found fiddling with his die cast models, listening to music, surfing the internet (YouTube, Netflix, or looking for another dating website to join), or talking on the phone. Regardless of Tom's health complications and physical limitations, he never lost his sense of humor and continued to be the typical retired "dirty old man" truck driver that everyone knew and loved. He was always telling jokes (mostly inappropriate ones), harassing others and ruffling their feathers, scheming up some ridiculous (often unsafe) idea, and/or formulating a way to make a buck. In way or another, Tom's presence was surely known. Since the sudden death of his wife, Delores H. Weaver, in 2010 to cancer, Tom has been incomplete. Over the past few years, Tom has made numerous indications that he longed to be reunited with his wife. It was obvious that this desire increased for Tom as each day ended. The family finds comfort knowing he is no longer miserable. Surviving to share all the crazy stories involving Tom are his children, Lynne (Ron Jr.) Hensley and Timothy (Audrey) Weaver; grandchildren, Beth (Rodney Jr.) Rodriguez, Crystal (Keith) Smith, Matthew Rogers (Cpl., USMC), Ronnie III Hensley, Brandon Hensley, and "adopted" granddaughter Alicia Zablocki; great-grandchildren, Shelby and Ronnie IV Hensley; extended family members, friends, neighbors, as well as all of the healthcare team members he met that infamously know him as the notorious "G-Pa". Visitations are welcomed on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 12:00 pm-3:00 pm at Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo Ohio, 43614. A short memorial/prayer service will take place at 12:30 pm. Everyone is encouraged to write some kind message under this obituary, located online at cmsjr@berstickerscottfuneralhome.com. Please include stories of your favorite times with Tom, recollection of the jokes Tom told, how and when you met Tom, and so on. These can be as unpredictable as Tom was… the possibilities are endless. Share your memories with us! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Beth Rodriguez. Funds received will be used to fulfill a wish of Tom's that never happened: to buy a brick at Hospice in honor of Tom's late wife, Delores H. Weaver.
