Mary Stoner

Mary Stoner, age 97, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025. She was born August 21, 1928, in Northwood, Ohio, to the late Harold and Ruth (Matthews) Rideout. Mary grew up on a farm and went to Oleny school. Bethany Church in Oregon, Ohio, was the family church. She attended many church activities and fellowship groups. After graduating from high school, she attended Bowling Green State University. During World War II, workers were needed, and Mary went to work at Penny's at Great Eastern Shopping Center. She then got a job at Sun Oil in the accounting department. Around this time, she met Robert Stoner at Pearson Park skating rink. They dated until they were married in 1950, at which time they built their own home in South Toledo. Park Congregational United Church of Christ became their place of worship. Mary is a long-time member of Park Church, where she taught Sunday school.

Mary assisted her husband in establishing Stoner-Johnson Insurance Agency while raising two children, Lee and Lew Stoner. She worked part-time in the insurance agency for over 50 years by keeping the books, working with accounting, and preparing over 1000 tax returns. Mary was active in Burroughs School PTA and was a den mother in Cub Scouting. She volunteered for 10 years at the former Riverside Hospital and for 2 years at St. Ann's Hospital.

Mary enjoyed cooking for her family, friends, and church events. She took great pleasure in working in her garden, camping, and traveling. Mary's vacations included Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, many national parks, and every state in the USA with Bob and friends. Mary and Bob were able to assist with college tuition for many family members. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her parents, Harold and Ruth Rideout. She is survived by her two sons, Lee Stoner (Kim Perry), and Lew Stoner (Mary Beth). Grandchildren Mike Stoner (Jennifer), Brett Stoner (Natalie), Crystal Stoner (Shane Stenger), Neil Stoner (Leslie), and Julian Stoner (Victoria), along with several great-grandchildren. Mary loved life, and she lived a full and wonderful life. Traveling to many places and participating in more activities than anyone expected.
