Janet Keener, 89 of Holland, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, September 5th after a
short stay at Swan Creek retirement home. Janet was born in Elkview, WV on October
9, 1933. She attended Morris Harvey College in Charleston, WV where she earned a
Bachelor of Music degree and where she met her husband, Rex.
Music was one of the foundations of her life, teaching over 35 years at Toledo Public
Schools as a Music Teacher. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in
Maumee and sang in the choir for many years. One of her true passions was
volunteering for the Toledo Symphony League and Youth Orchestra. While there she
created a music scholarship for young musicians in honor of her daughter Christine.
She loved and cherished every moment with her grandchildren. They truly brought her
so much joy and happiness. She would talk to them weekly as well as write them letters
on a frequent basis. She always wanted to know everything they were up to and shared
in their joy.
Janet enjoyed spending time with her friends, whether attending an after school happy
hour, going to a concert or simply chatting on the phone. She enjoyed gardening and
"putzing" around her yard. She could often be found eating her lunch on a chair in the
garage while taking a break on a hot summer day.
She is preceded in death by her husband Rex, daughters Gretchen, Stephanie and
Christine. She is survived by her son, Eric, wife Liz, and grandchildren Cooper, Myles,
and Paige.
A celebration of Janet's life will be held at Maumee First Presbyterian Church on
September 28th receiving friends at 10:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am. The
family request memorials in her honor to the Toledo Symphony League Remembrance
Fund.
