Henry G Carpenter

Henry Gregory Carpenter was born to Heather and Jeff on March 10, 2005, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and was diagnosed with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy at age 3. His parents provided Henry with a life not limited by his disease – but a life that allowed Henry to do as much as possible. Henry traveled from the Keweenaw Peninsula to the Everglades of Florida. Henry loved visiting the Outer Banks where he parasailed over the Atlantic Ocean, enjoying a helicopter flight over the ’Mokey Mountains (Smokey Mountains), fan boating in the Everglades to see the alligators, camping from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to the shores of Lakes Michigan using his trail chair to experience the vast beauty of nature, watching his younger sister Susie participate at swim meets, and having his beloved cat Tuco sitting on his lap and watching his chickens run around his yard – no challenge to much for his parents to find a way to give Henry the fullest life possible.

The Carpenter family would like to acknowledge Amanda Anastasoff (Mrs. A) and her family for the love and support that they have provided to Henry and their family for the past 10 years. Mrs. A was his constant companion during his time in school and made sure that each day was a great day for Henry. After Henry’s graduation from Ida High School in 2024, Mrs. A continued to provide extraordinary care for him at home, and they became best friends.

At Ida Schools – Henry was a ray of sunshine to all those that had the pleasure and privilege to know him. A heartfelt thank you as well to the Ida Community for their unwavering support of Henry.

Thank you to all of Monroe County ISD Staff - who are too numerous to mention - for their unwavering support and caring of Henry throughout his school years – he loved each one of you.

A huge thank you to Hospice of Northwest Ohio who provided amazing care for Henry in his final days.

Thank you to all of the medical professionals who have treated Henry over the years – there are too many to mention – the care provided to him made it possible for Henry to have the experiences that he was so fortunate to have.

Henry is survived by his loving parents, Jeff and Heather, his sister, Susie, his paternal grandparents, Greg and Debra Carpenter, maternal grandfather, Charlie Emmenecker, several aunts, uncles, and cousins - too numerous to name – all of whom will miss his kind, gentle, and caring spirit.

Henry will join his maternal grandmother, Susan Emmenecker, at Resurrection Cemetery following a funeral at St. Joe’s Sylvania on January 6th, 2026 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, donations can be made to Henry's GoFundMe. Arrangements by the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd at Byrne Rd.
