Tuong Ky Tran

Tuong Ky Tran, "Tran" of Toledo and then Oregon, passed away at the age of 62 on March 28, 2021 due to COVID-19 and associated symptoms.
Born in 1959 to Hoa (ethnic Chinese in Vietnam) parents in South Vietnam near Saigon, Mr. Tran lived through the Vietnam War while supporting his parents' business and befriended American servicemen during their deployment. After the Fall of Saigon, he would as a teenager, serve in the People's Army of Vietnam and fought against Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in the Cambodian-Vietnamese War.
He then fled Vietnam as one of the Vietnamese boat people and landed at the Tengah Island transit camp in Malaysia before emigrating as a refugee to America. He would obtain a general contracting degree and was also a student of Penta Career Center. Over his life he took upon a variety of vocations including but not limited to: foodservice, tool & die maker, salesman, and master locksmith. Often the case for immigrants, he would sacrifice his quality of life to send what money he had to support his siblings and family back in Vietnam. Coming to America with only a few dollars in his pocket, he later made the American Dream a reality in the country he and other immigrants risked their lives for.
Lastly a machine operator of Rieter Automotive (now Autoneum) of over 30 years, he was well-respected and beloved by countless during his tenure. Ever the helper, he would fix VCRs and file taxes for his coworkers. One of his last acts was to return a completed tax return to a fellow coworker. Mr. Tuong was also known to be: a jokester, mentor, kind and generous, friendly, intelligent, and skilled along with his jovial personality.
Some of Mr. Tuong's passions included: collecting, fishing, gardening and horticulture, photography, and was especially an avid lover of movies.
Owing to his fearlessness and close encounters with death at a young age, Mr. Tran lived and left life according to his own terms. Having long accomplished his purpose and desire of giving to family and others, Mr. Tran leaves behind an enduring and indelible legacy of: kindness, devotion, sacrifice, and exuberant enthusiasm for life.
Though a tragic and premature passing, he had achieved in little time what might have taken more. We are joined in the mourning and joyous reflection of a great man and a life well and fully lived.
Our families would like to graciously thank all who gave him great joy and were in his life no matter how long. We are comforted by the support and sentiment that have and continue to be given, and he would be happy beyond measure at the same.
He was preceded in death by: father Ham Tran and mother Dieu (Trinh) Tran, younger sister Hoa Tran, and sister-in-law Liqing Ma.
He is survived by: parents-in-law Huan Huang and Juan Huang, wife Sue (Huang) Tran of 30 years, sons Adam Tran and Brandon Tran, brother Thanh Tran, and sisters Sang Tran and Sieu Tran. As well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
