Rex C. Keener Rex C. Keener, 81 of Holland, Ohio passed away September 2, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo after a brief illness. Rex was born on January 30, 1930 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Rex D. and Dorothy (Moore) Keener. Rex graduated from Charleston High School and received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Charleston West Virginia ( Morris Harvey College). Rex also received his Master of Liberal Arts and Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Toledo. Rex also studied Advanced Business at Dartmouth College. Rex served in the Army as a First Lt. during the Korean Conflict at Ft. Dix, N.J. in the Signal Corp. Rex worked for Owens Illinois as a Credit Manager in Glass Container for 36 years. He began a second career as a Vice President of Commercial Lending for Fifth Third Bank, retiring in 1996. Rex had many interests, including being Past Master of Barton Smith Lodge #613 (Triad Lodge) and the Lucas Co. Memorial Lodge, and was a former member of the Zenobia Shrine and the Jesters Unit. Rex also served as a Deacon, Elder, and Clerk of Session for First Presbyterian Church of Maumee. He loved playing golf at Valleywood Golf Club and Heatherdowns Country Club. Rex also had a passion for classical music, and was a 51-year season ticket holder of the Toledo Symphony. After retirement, Rex volunteered for over 5 years as a Tutor for Ohio Reads program. Rex loved college basketball and was an avid Duke University fan. Rex loved Pontiac convertibles and collected a variety of clowns. His three daughters, Gretchen, Christine, Stephanie Keener, and brother, Gary Keener, preceded Rex in death. Surviving are his wife of 56 years Janet (Grose) Keener whom he married on August 19, 1955, Son, Eric (Elizabeth) Keener, of Cincinnati, Ohio, brother, Richard (Sally) Keener of Durham, N.C., Sister, Joyce (Tom) Edmundson, of Denton, Texas, and Grandchildren, Cooper, Myles, and Paige Keener. The family will receive friends at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home on Monday September 5, 2011 from 3-8 P.M. with Barton Smith Masonic Lodge Services at 7:00 P.M. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday September 6, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, 200 East Broadway, Maumee, Ohio with Rev. Clinton W. Tolbert officiating. Rex donated his body to the Neuroscience Department of UTMC. The family requests memorials to: First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, The Toledo Symphony League of Toledo: Attn.
