"I want my obituary to be interesting." Kathleen (Vetter) Drescher shared this sentiment with her family shortly before peacefully passing away on February 24, at home in Toledo, Ohio. That's not really a tall order when you learn that Kathy, who was born July 5, 1950 at Mercy Hospital in Toledo to John and Carolyn (Pfleghaar) Vetter, once flew on Pan Am to Honolulu to see Don Ho perform because, as she put it, "why not?" Kathy graduated from St. Agnes School in 1964, Central Catholic High School in 1968, and Stautzenberger Business College in 1969. She also attended Davis Business College and The University of Toledo. Kathy worked at the DeVilbiss Company from 1969 to 1985, in the accounting and finance department as an executive secretary. For vacation one year she convinced a colleague to join her on a trip to Spain and Morocco, during which they crossed the Strait of Gibraltar on a Russian hydrofoil at the height of the Cold War (a story she loved retelling). She also owned and managed commercial rental property on Alexis Road for 15 years. In 1979 Kathy met David, a clerk at the U.S. Post Office and a disco instructor, at a singles dance. They were united in marriage on August 8, 1980 at St. Joseph's Church in Maumee, and they danced all through the next few years until disco gave way to diapers when Kathy and David welcomed a daughter and son. They renewed their vows on Christmas Day in 2010 with a drive-thru ceremony at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Kathy was a GBU member of The German-American Festival Society, volunteering for the festivals and putting to use the phrases she picked up while road tripping with her extended family around Germany in a Volkswagen Westfalia camper van. She enjoyed needlework and crafts, summers at Catawba Point on Lake Erie, and playing with her cats Tinzie and Jetson. Other travels with her family included Mexico, Turks & Caicos, Bermuda, and several Caribbean cruises. Her "happy place" was on the balcony of a ship at sea. Kathy is survived by her husband David, her daughter Cynthia, of New York City, and son Steven, of Toledo. She is preceded in death by her son Brian, her parents John and Carolyn (Pfleghaar) Vetter, grandparents John and Anna (Kaufmann) Vetter, and Alfred and Hazel (Zeller) Pfleghaar. A visitation with snacks will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, Ohio 43614. Burial will be private. Memorials are suggested to Central Catholic High School. Please sign Kathy's condolence page at www.berstickerscottfuneralhome.com.
