James W Smith James W Smith, 83 of Toledo, Ohio passed away Thursday July 14, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo campus. Mr. Smith was born on April 9, 1928 in Lansing, Michigan to Octavius Weldon and Harriet (Bock) Smith of Port Elgin, Ontario Canada. Mr. Smith served in the United States Navy from 1945-48. He worked at the Sun Oil Refinery in east Toledo for 38 years retiring from the lab department. Jim enjoyed coaching little league baseball and youth ice hockey. He also played on the Sun Oil employees' softball teams. Surviving is his wife of 61 years Jean, daughter, Janie (Dave) DeHart, Son's Charlie (Pattie) Smith, Jeff (Julie) Smith, brother, Hank (Joan) Smith, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd at Byrne Road Monday July 18, 2011 after 11:00 A.M. where services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Interment to follow in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery.
