Gloria G. Beach, 93, of Toledo, cherished by family and friends, passed away December 26, 2015 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family. Gloria was born on August 15, 1922 in Toledo, Ohio. She was the Daughter of Wesley Wyman and Gertrude (Marz) Wyman. Gloria was a big band singer in her youth. On November 5, 1935, at the age of 13, she received a Postal Telegram notifying her she was the Toledo Winner of the Major Bowes Amateurs National Radio Show. This was the forerunner of American Idol. She played the Ukulele Guitar and sang. Her audition was heard over WSPD Radio and later performed on stage at The Paramount Theater. Gloria also had a half hour show on Saturdays on WSPD Radio to sing to the WW2 Service Troops. On November 11, 1928, during the Toledo Parade, Miss Gloria Wyman was awarded "The Sprit of Peace" Trophy by The American Legion. This was an accolade she was most proud of. She was honored to be the featured vocalist on the entertainment program arranged for the President's Birthday Ball for Franklin D. Roosevelt at The Trianon Ballroom in Toledo in January 1939. Gloria retired the microphone after she married the love of her life Lawrence H. Beach Jr. Following the birth of her children, she became a homemaker. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her family. Summers were spent on their boat at Maumee River Yacht Club and Cedar Point Marina. She enjoyed going into the amusement park with her husband, children, and grandchildren to watch the variety and musical shows. During Spring Breaks, she traveled to Disney World with the family. Gloria loved her Beagle's and German Shepherd's. She enjoyed watching the wildlife by the riverside in the comfort of her home. Gloria will always be remembered as a gracious and elegant lady with a positive spirit. She loved having lunch and shopping in downtown Toledo at Lasalle's, Lion Store, Lamson's, and The Spitzer Arcade. Most often, she would come home with a pretty pair of high heeled shoes! Gloria was preceded in death in by her husband, Lawrence H. Beach Jr. She is survived by her son, Gary Beach; her daughter Kristine (Raymond) Young; her grandchildren, Ryan (Amanda) Young, Kelly (Andrew) Frankowiak; and her great grandchild, Kensie Frankowiak.
