Evelyn Florence Garner

Evelyn Florence Garner age 91 passed away September 20, 2013 in the Lutheran Village Wolf Creek. Evelyn was born on January 25, 1922 in Toledo, Ohio to Fred and Florence Tegtmeyer. Evelyn graduated from Waite High School in 1940 and later married Robert Garner and were truly soul mates and best friends. Mom always had time to listen to our problems and then, with love and understanding she would give us advise when needed with the style and logic that a best friend would. We could always depend on mom to be there for us all through our life. Her many interest's included her, gardening, and family outings. Many Sundays we would explore uncharted destinations for our afternoon drives, and dad always found a A&W Root Beer drive-in wherever we went. Mom and dad also enjoyed their summers at the family cabin on Big Bear Lake in Lewiston, Michigan, where they continued their love of traveling in the beauty of northern Michigan. We all spent many enjoyable days at their cabin with mom and dad. To the family, the cabin was like a home away from home. Mom was an active member of the First English Church where she sang in the choir and volunteered for many church supported organizations including the NW Ohio Food Drive for the Homeless, She also served as a den mother in her son's Cub Scout pack. She also served many years as an active member and as President of the Philaflora Garden Club. Evelyn is survived by her children, sons; James and Richard Garner; daughters Diane "Dusty" Wright (Jeff) and Carol Garner (Otho Eyster); 7 grandchildren,7 great grandchildren and 2 great- great-grandchildren. Sisters; Leah "Lee" Buschmann, Florence "Boots" Watts and 2 very special friends: Judie Molner and Donna Linger. Mom's face lite up with a smile whenever Judie walked into mom's room. Donna Linger; mom's best friend at Lutheran Village Wolf Creek has been by mom's side since day one, to her last day 4 years latter. Donna encouraged mom to participate in various activities keeping her active and happy including singing with mom. At the end of each day Donna would lead mom in the Lord's Prayer and give her a hug and I love you goodnight. In addition we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Lutheran Village Wolf Creek in Holland, Ohio who cared for mom over 4 years and the Gentiva Hospice staff that assisted mom in her last days of life. Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert and her parents Fred and Florence Tegtmeyer. The family will receive friends at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd. at Byrne Rd. Wednesday; September 25, 2013 after 10:30 am. Where funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. A private burial will take place in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to the charity of their choice. We will miss her more then words could ever express.
