Emma May Pfleger

Emma was born in Elmore, Ohio, to Elmer and Emma (Schroeder) Damschroder on May 21, 1922. As a child she was interested in planes. Charles Lindbergh landed in Paris on her 5 th birthday. She and her mother saw him in Cleveland after his flight. She took her first plane ride when she was 10. Her love of flight led her to get her private pilot's license in 1943. She graduated from Harris Elmore High School in 1940, after which she worked at Postal Telegraph. She later worked at Erie Proving Grounds collecting information on ordinance fired into Lake Erie. She also worked at Owens Illinois. She married Walter Pfleger on April 23, 1949, and they had two sons, John and James. Her activities over the years included teaching Sunday School, coaching church league girls' basketball, and Cub Scout den mother. She was secretary of the GAF Society at Oak Shade Grove for 40 years. One of her favorite activities was traveling with family and friends. Her last trip ended 12 days before her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, brothers Bliss and Norman Damschroder, and sisters Agnes Agnew, Beatrice Hostetter, and Clista Avers. Emma is survived by sons John and Jim and many nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom she loved dearly. Thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the love and care they gave her and to all who visited and remembered her in other ways. The family will receive friends at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd on Byrne Road, Tuesday May 29, 2018 from 3-8 p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday May 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Petri Lutheran Church, 3120 S. Byrne Rd. with a gathering at 10 a.m. Interment in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park will follow the service.
