Emma M Bonawit, 104, long-time resident of the Toledo area, passed away April 11, 2017 at Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh, Michigan where she had been a resident for the past year. Born on February 23, 1913 in Riga, Michigan to August and Mathilda (Baeckelandt) DeKeyser. Emma Married John F Bonawit August 4, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1997. Emma lived a quiet, happy life tending to her house and gardening. She loved to dance, play cards, enjoyed the Toledo Mud Hens and was an accomplished seamstress and cook. Emma was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul, Albrick, Amiel DeKeyser, sisters, Clara O'Neill, Alice DeKeyser, Mary Sontag , nieces Jeanine George, Barbara Leite, JoAnne DeKeyser, Alane Phillip and nephew Lloyd Frank Bonawit. Surviving are her sister-in-law, Marjorie DeKeyser; her nieces, Marlene Black, Greta Hetzel, Candace Hanna, Sharon Real, Joyce O'Cain, nephew, Ross DeKeyser, and, along with many great nieces, and great nephews. Emma cherished her family and friends and was especially thankful for all of the help she received from her special long-time friends Barb Merzke, Shirley Larson and Tom Marckel. A funeral Mass will be held in Wednesday April 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Clement Church 3030 Tremainsville Road Toledo, Ohio The family will receive friends after 9:00 a.m. at the church. Interment to follow in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to be made St. Clement Church or to Hospice of Lenawee County Michigan 1903 Wolf Creek Hwy Adrian, Michigan 49221.
