Ann Gasser

Ann Gasser (Matesz) DOB June 6, 1921 DOD May 20, 2013 Ann Gasser, age 91, passed away on Monday May 20, 2013, at 6 p.m. at the Heartland of Waterville Arcadia Alzheimer's facility after a difficult time with Alzheimer's disease. Ann was born June 6, 1921 to Frank and Anna Matesz in the Birmingham neighborhood of Toledo. She married Herman Gasser on February 1, 1947 and they enjoyed a successful marriage for 66 years. She was a devoted mother and loved her family, especially the grand kids, and had a generous heart and strong character. She was proud of her Hungarian heritage, and as a result was a wonderful cook. She attended St. Stephan's school and church and was in the Hungarian dance group as a little girl. Most of all Ann enjoyed family and many friends and vigorous conversation. Laughs were plentiful. Holidays were a special time for her and she was always up for some fun. We will miss her Hungarian Christmas cookies and stuffed cabbage dinners. Her sons, Robert and James, were glad to have her as their Mother, and appreciated her guidance, her frequent examples that hard work pays off, and bestowing upon them the gift of gab. Ann is survived by her husband Herman; sons James Gasser (Ann) and Robert Gasser (Michelle), and grandchildren David, Heidi, and Gretchen, sisters Rosie Simpson and Helen Pratt, and brother John Matesz (Ruth). A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (1825 Glendale) at 2 p.m. on June 1st for family and friends. The family gives thanks to the staff at Heartland of Waterville for their caring attendance to Ann, and suggests that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Alzheimer's Association or charity of their choice, or to Heartland Hospice of Toledo.
